The Laboratory for thermodynamics became an independent unit of organization in 2002, and the head was Prof. Damir Ježek, PhD. Since 2011, the head has been Prof. Mladen Brnčić, PhD. By 2002, lectures in the course “Thermodynamics I and II” were held by external associates from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Zagreb; from the academic year 1956/1957 to 1961/1962 it was Prof. Veljko Brlek, PhD, and from 1962/1963 to 1965/1966 Prof. Ivan Turk, PhD. From the academic year 1966/1967, lectures in the subject “Thermodynamics and Thermotechnics” were joint for the Biotechnology and Chemical Technology Section of the Department for Thermodynamics and Mechanical Engineering. The lectures were held by Prof. Ivo Kolin, PhD.
After the establishment of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology in 1979 as an independent institution, the “Thermodynamics and Thermotechnics” course in the Laboratory for Technological Operations, was taught by Dubravka Krišković, PhD, Assistant Professor, for students at the VI and VII academic level. In 1983, internal student readers for exercises in the courses “Thermodynamics and Thermotechnics” were published, and in 1984 the reader with lectures. From 1998, lectures were held by Prof. Emil Hnatko, PhD, and Dražen Horvat, PhD. Apart from the research related to thermal processes, research in the Laboratory is also carried out regarding the application of new non-toxic technologies in food processing, especially ultrasonic technologies (drying, extraction, homogenization, processing of bio-waste and by-products from the food industry).
