The Section for Physical Education was founded in 1983 as a constituent part of the Chair for General Studies and Economics of the Department of Process Engineering at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology at the University of Zagreb. The first lectures were held by Ratko Karković, MA, who earned the title of Lecturer on 1. March1983, and became, in 1995, head of the Section for Physical Education.
In 1986 the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology took over the management of the sports gymnasium in Kačićeva 23 and employed another lecturer, Ljubomir Milošević, MA. After his retirement in 1997, Lidija Podvalej, MA, was elected a lecturer, in 2003 as senior lecturer and from 2006-2008 and 2010-2015 she was head of the Section for Physical Education. In 2006 Neven Karković, MA, was elected a lecturer, in 2011 a senior lecturer and from 2008-2010, and 2015 he was head of the Section for Physical Education.
