The Laboratory for the Biological Wastewater Treatment has operated within the Department of Food Engineering of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology at the University of Zagreb since 1997 under the same name. It was founded in 1984 as a Laboratory for Wastewater Testing. Until then, research on wastewaters had been carried out within the Laboratory for Fermentation Technology and Biological Treatment of Wastewater, which was established in 1976.
