The Section was founded in the fall of 1957. For a number of years, it operated outside of the existing departments and chairs. From 1972, it was a part of the Department for Mathematics of the Faculty of Technology and now it is a part of the Department for Process Engineering of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology.
