Description:
The aim of the course is to provide detailed knowledge about cell biology, differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, as well as animal and plant cell; structure and function of cellular organelles; structure and function of cell membrane, cell wall, and cytoskeleton. Fundamental metabolic and regulatory processes in a cell will be described; principles of inheritance; different plant and animal tissues and human organ systems, as well as basic systematics, cladogenesis and phylogenetics.
In addition to the theoretical lectures, each unit is further explored through practical exercises, including practical work encompassing microscopy of plant and animal material. Individual units are further explored through additional tasks in seminars.
