Section for Technical Foreign Languages
The Section for General Studies at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology was established in 1982 and was incorporated in the Department of Process Engineering. It included sections of Management, Sociology, Technical Foreign Languages and Physical Education:
English for Specific Purposes, held by Sunita Bujas, Lecturer (1982 – 1991) and Andrea Šupih-Kvaternik, MA, Senior Lecturer (1988 – today)
German for Specific Purposes held by Vesna Reiser, Lecturer (1982 – 1996), Dora Baron, MA ( 1996 – 2001), Zdenka Mandekić, lecturer ( 2001 – 2006), Dijana Njerš (2009- today). Since 1982 and 1996 lectures in Technical Foreign Languages were held during the 3d,4th, 5th and 6th semesters as obligatory subjects.
When the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb was reorganized in 1966, a separate department, the Department for General Studies (Department VI) was established including: sections of Management, Sociology, Technical Foreign Languages and Physical Education and Health.
The Section for Technical Foreign Languages has operated within the Department of General Studies ever since 1996 offering lectures in English, German and French as Technical Foreign Languages. From 1996 until 2005 lectures in technical foreign languages were offered in the second and fourth or fifth year (depending on the study enrolled), and after another reorganization of lectures at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology according to the “Bologna process”, lectures of Technical Foreign Languages were offered in the 1st and 2nd semestres, of Undergraduate Studies as obligatory modules for all studies offering 1 ECTS, and in the 3d year of Undergraduate Studies, and in the 2d and 4th semesters of the Graduate Studies as elective modules adding 3 ECTS.
