Course Description

COURSE CONTENT

Foundations of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Overview of technologies used in genomics and proteomics. Genotyping. Impact of genetic variations within a population . on disease susceptibility. Interaction of nutrients and genes and effect on health. Nutrient’s effect on gene expression. Optimisation of nutrition based on genotype. Micronutrients and DNA damage. Genetics of senses. Regulation of metabolic disorders by nutrition.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Explain foundations and links between genetics, genomics and gene regulation with diet.
  • Select appropriate omics technologies, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics for application in nutrition research.
  • Asses the risks and create nutritional recommendations based on individual’s genomic profile.
  • Discuss newest scientific discoveries form field of nutrition related to population’s genetic predisposition to general public.
