Course Description

During lectures and discussions, students will be  introduced to the key concepts of project planning (idea, structure, managament) and its realization through doctoral work. Also, importance of intellectual property protection by patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets etc. will be emphasized. The role and importance of keeping laboratory notes and results presentation will be also discussed. Students will gain practical skills in patent and trademark searching through available non-commercial databases (Espacenet, OHIM).


  • explain the basic elements of project management
  • present the project idea and develope strategies for project realization
  • describe the main categories of intellectual property and patent issuess in the field of biotechnology
  • demonstrate competencies in patent/trademark databases searching
